Parking, access arrangements for media

Wake Forest University has developed a parking and campus access plan for the news media covering the presidential debate Oct. 11.

Members of the news media must carry photo identification and identification verifying their media affiliation at all times. This requirement is part of an overall security plan developed in cooperation with Secret Service.

On Oct. 7 and 8, the media may park cars on campus in Lot W2, located at the intersection of Wingate Road and Carroll Weathers Drive. After entering the Polo Road campus entrance, Carroll Weathers Drive is located to the left.

On Oct. 9, 10 and 11, the media should park automobiles at the university's Groves Stadium. The football stadium is located on Deacon Boulevard, one mile from campus. Free shuttles will run continuously from parking lots around Groves Stadium to the campus. They will begin operating Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. and run until Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. Proper ID will be required to use this service. Parking for media trucks and equipment will be provided at on campus lots P and Q, located behind Wait Chapel.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Commission on Presidential Debates will give a presentation to the news media at 10 a.m. The group will gather in front of the Benson University Center. Joani Komlos, the CPD's media director, will speak to the media and take questions on logistical matters. The Wake Forest News Service will also be present.

Parking on campus will be limited, due to debate preparations. For this meeting, special arrangements have been made for the news media to park in Lot B, between Taylor and Davis residence halls. The lot is on the western side of the Quad, along Wake Forest Road. It is a short walk from the lot to the Benson Center.
